Jaya Isaac-Carr: Balancing Education and Sports
Jaya Isaac-Carr attended Antigua State College and is currently pursuing a diploma in Architectural
Technology at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada. Before discovering her true passion, she
explored several sports, including swimming, golf, and netball. Her journey ultimately led her to
volleyball, which she began playing at the age of 13 while attending Christ the King High School.
Jaya’s passion for volleyball was strongly influenced by her parents, who were also players. Watching
them compete inspired her to pursue the sport seriously. She currently plays for the Royal Cruisers
Volleyball Club and is a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Volleyball Association. From 2022
to 2025, she proudly represented Antigua and Barbuda in national and international competitions,
including the ECVA U21 Beach Volleyball Tournaments and the ECVA U23 Women’s Championship in
Dominica.
In 2023, while attending college, Jaya made her first national trip to St. Kitts and Nevis to compete in the
U21 Beach Volleyball Tournament. That same year, she represented her country in Dominica at the
ECVA U23 women’s volleyball championship. In 2024, she made her first appearance as a member of the
senior women national team and competed in the ECVA women’s volleyball championship in Antigua. In
2025, Jaya and her partner placed second at the ECVA U21 Beach Volleyball Championship in St. Kitts,
earning qualification to participate in the U21 World Championship Beach Volleyball Qualifier held in
Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic, in July.
Jaya’s future goals are to play volleyball at the professional level while becoming a successful and well-
known architect. Both career paths demand discipline, resilience, teamwork, and creativity—qualities
that volleyball and her academic journey have helped her develop.
One key lesson Jaya shares with upcoming athletes is to never give up. Training becomes more
demanding, fatigue sets in, and challenges arise, but those moments are where true growth happens.
She believes in setting goals, working relentlessly to achieve them, and continuously pushing forward.
Volleyball has shaped Jaya into a more confident individual and strengthened her communication skills
both on and off the court. While she wishes she had started her volleyball journey earlier, she remains
grateful for every opportunity and looks forward to continuing to grow, improve, and pursue her goals.
