ROAD TOWN, Tortola: St. Lucia recovered from a sluggish start and trading points with Saba to register a straight sets victory. The match nine (9) victory for St. Lucia, at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) U23 Male Championship was their first of the tournament, putting their record to one win and won loss. Team Saba is now resigned to two losses.

The first set ended 25 15, after St. Lucia dominated the latter half of the set.
Saba played even more competitively in the second set, reaching both technical time-outs before St. Lucia, limiting St. Lucia’s attacking options in the first half of that set. However, St. Lucia made several key substitutions to right the ship to close out the set at 25 20.
St. Lucia was more dominant in the third set, stringing together potent attacks to distance themselves from their opponent. The match ended with a cracking spike from St. Lucia, through the middle, 25 13.
Top scorer for the match was St. Lucia outside attacker Rio Jaden Victor with 16 points. Suedaiyer Pemberton was the top scorer Saba with 7 points
Coach Terry Verdant of St. Lucia indicated that he used the match against Saba to get some of his secondary players involved in the game but he admitted that he had to make some key substitutions to effectively close the game out.
Coach Patricio Bridgewater of Saba noted that he was content with the improved level of play from his team. He highlighted the need for continued work on maintaining leads at critical junctures but emphasized that this is part of the developmental stage of the team.
Saba next plays St. Kitts and Nevis later today (October 13) then St. Lucia plays St. Kitts and Nevis tomorrow morning, October 14.
