| CASTRIES, St Lucia: Honours were even on day one of the Men’s segment of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Senior Beach Volleyball Tournament here at the Cul de Sac Bay.
Spreading across all four groups, seven matches were decided, with five registered 2-0 wins, while two needed a third set. In Group B, defending pair, Joseph Clercent and Sheldon Descartes beat Dominica Team Two representatives, Mervin Mingo and Bill Frederick, 2-0 (21-14, 21-8). Also, in Group B, Bermuda’s Kyle Hamilton and Benjamin Barnett defeated Mingo and Fredrick, 2-1(16-21, 21-8, 15-13). The tale was similar in Group A, as St Kitts and Nevis’ Elkreen Morton and Cleric Ward stopped the British Virgin Islands’ duo of J’adon George and Jose Ramirez 2-0 (21- 6, 21-6). Then, Yahn Florent and Ray Robinson, who formed Dominica’s Team One, had a comfortable 2-0 ( 21-5, 21-4) triumph over George and Ramirez. Likewise, Group C hosted two matches. St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Jamaar Cropper and Ronaldo Franklyn defeated St Lucia Team Two’s Darnell Rio Victor and Darnell Eudoxie 2-1( 20-22, 21-17, 15-13). However, Victor and Eudoxie rebounded to go past Jamarie James and Adrian Constant 2-0 ( 25-23, 21-16). And, the lone match in Group D, saw Grenada’s Darron Oxford and Isaac Nelson, recording a 2-0( 23-21, 21-13) trumping at the expense of St Lucia Team Three’s Jevauny Roberts and Peter Emmanuel. Day Two Group Fixtures Group A: Morton/ Ward vs Florent/ Robinson Group B: Hamilton/ Benjamin vs Descartes/ Florent Group C: James/ Constant vs Cropper/ Franklyn Group D: Roberts/ Emmanuel vs Aiden Hazzard / Da’ Qwan Fredericks( Anguilla) Hazzard/ Fredericks vs Oxford/ Nelson Following the remainder of matches in the Group stage, the second and third places in the four groups will duel for four quarter final places. The winners of the group advance directly to the quarter finals. |
