Four teams unbeaten after day one in Women’s play

BASSETERRE: St Kitts and Nevis, Aug. 30, 2024: Four teams- Bermuda, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, and St Eustatius have established their prowess, after day one action, in the Women’s segment of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-21 Championships, here at the Marriot Beach.

On a sun -drenched day, where no favours were on offer, Bermuda’s pair of Isabelle Sousa and Hailey Trott defeated Natalia Drayton and Karissa Scatliffe of the British Virgin Islands, 2-0 (21-10, 21-6).

Sousa and Trott then saw off Lavesha Richardson and Deandra Flemming of Anguilla 2-0(21-8, 21-17), to lead Pool A play.

In Pool B, Alyssa Bully and Nyla Edmund beat St Vincent and the Grenadines duo of Nayellli Fergus and Reanna Robinson 2-0(21-12, 21-17).

Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda’s Jaya Carr and Jassania Joseph, made their efforts count, as they had a 2-0(21-19, 21-14) win over St Lucia’s Kurtrice Jules and Marie -Therese St Clair, to shore up Pool C, as the dominant outfit.

And, in Pool D, St Eustatius stayed perfect from their two matches.  The combination of Gerelvia Spanner and Elshe Spanner outdid Teasia Jones and Makyala Mason of Grenada, 2-0 (10-21, 21-17, 15-10), then had a 2-0(21-13, 2-12) triumph over the Saba pair of Hannah Johnson and Selena Gomez.

 

Other Results

Pool A: Richardson/ Flemming defeated Drayton/ Scattliffe 2-0 (21-4, 21-9)

Pool B: Fergus/ Richardson defeated St Kitts and Nevis Two of Jahzara Andrew and Khimeli Jules 2-1(21-12, 21-23, 15-10).

Pool C:  Jules/ St Clair defeated St Kitts and Nevis’ Team Three of Asia Campbell and Jenieve Thomas 2-0 (21-10, 21-3).

Pool D: Johnson and Selena Gomez beat St Kitts and Nevis Team One of Celina Alwani and Jontelle Hensley- Phillip 2-1(19-21, 21-17, 16-14) and Jones/ Mason defeated Alwani/ Hensley/ Phillip 2-0 (21-4, 21-14).

Day two features Bully/ Edmund versus Andrew/ Jules in Pool B; Carr/ Joseph versus Campbell/ Thomas in Pool C; Alwani versus Hensley- Phillip versus Spanner/ Spanner, as well as Jones/ Mason against Johnson/ Gomez, in Pool D, to conclude the preliminary phase.

Also set for day ,two are the play- off elimination matches.
