St. Vincent Downs Defending Champions Antigua on Day 2 of ECVA Senior Volleyball Championship

TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands, August 13, 2026. – Day 2 of men’s competition at the 2026 Eastern Caribbean Senior Volleyball Championship saw four thrilling matches.

St. Vincent defeated Antigua 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-22) in a thrilling battle that handed the defending champions their second straight loss to open the tournament. St. Vincent controlled play from the opening set and never let Antigua find a rhythm, closing out the match in straight sets.

Grenada edged Saint Lucia 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 24-26, 13-15) in a five-set thriller at the complex in Tortola. Grenada rallied to force a decisive fifth set after dropping the first two, but Grenada held on down the stretch to secure the win.

Bermuda’s men’s team took down host nation BVI 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20) in a hard-fought battle. BVI took the opening set, but Bermuda responded by winning three straight to close out the match.

Dominica defeated Anguilla 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-13) in the day’s other match, cruising to a straight-set win.

Speaking after the match, St. Vincent captain Ronaldo Franklyn gave credit to his coaches, who trained the team and laid out the game plan beforehand, so players knew what they needed to do and how to do it. He said that preparation gave the team the calmness to perform on the court.

More exciting matches are expected on Day 3 as teams continue their push toward the weekend’s championship matches.

The championship continues through August 16 at the Multipurpose Complex in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
