Ms. Josanne Lewis has been passionate about volleyball since the age of seven, when she first started playing with her father. From that early start, her love for the game has only grown stronger. She has competed in both beach and indoor volleyball, but indoor volleyball remains her favorite for its fast pace, structure, and emphasis on team chemistry and strategy.
Ms. Lewis believes that hard work is the foundation of success. She is never afraid to put in extra time and effort, dedicating countless hours to practice, studying technique and strategy, and maintaining peak physical condition. Her commitment to continuous improvement fuels her confidence that, with persistence and discipline, she can achieve any goal she sets.
She has proudly represented Antigua and Barbuda on the women’s national team for many years, competing internationally and earning MVP awards and championships along the way. She continued her volleyball career at Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she earned multiple accolades, including MVP, a top 5 national ranking in NCAA volleyball, and became the first All-American in her school’s history, as well as Female Volleyball Player of the Year. Currently, Ms. Lewis plays at John Jay College, where she is pursuing a degree in Forensic Psychology and has maintained a 4.0 GPA for two years. She has been named Female Volleyball Player of the Year for two consecutive years, leading her team to its first championship.
Beyond athletics, Ms. Lewis is committed to mental health advocacy. She aspires to make a meaningful impact, particularly in communities that lack access to essential mental health services. Her long-term goal is to earn a Ph.D. in Psychology and become a licensed psychologist focusing on children, improving how mental health is approached and delivered, especially for underserved populations.
In the next five years, Ms. Lewis envisions herself continuing to compete in volleyball at a high level while advancing her academic journey in psychology. She remains committed to growing both as an athlete and as a future psychologist. She encourages aspiring athletes to stay dedicated, disciplined, and focused, believing that with determination and a positive attitude, anyone can achieve their goals—just as she continues striving toward hers.
